Birmingham striker Nikola Zigic will depart the club this summer, his agent has confirmed. The Serbia international saw his campaign cut short by injury last season and could not help the Blues avoid relegation to the Championship. Everton have previously shown an interest in the 30-year-old, while his former club Racing Santander and Spanish rivals Malaga are also thought to be chasing his signature. And while his agent, Milan Calasan, has refused to speculate over Zigic's next destination, he has revealed the forward will be leaving before the start of the new season. "At the moment, the only thing that is sure is that Zigic is going to leave Birmingham this summer," Calasan told Serbian newspaper Sport. "There is still a long time left to decide, so we are not in a rush. Nikola's wish is to continue his career in England or Spain." The Birmingham squad will return for pre-season training on Tuesday, but former Valencia man Zigic is not expected to join them. Calasan says the Serbian has already started individual preparation ahead of the new season to ensure he is fully fit after his injury struggles. Zigic played a key role in Birmingham's successful Carling Cup campaign last term, scoring during their 2-1 victory over Arsenal in the final. And his agent believes the Blues may have beaten the drop had the forward been fit for the final weeks of the campaign. "Zigic has started the training process much earlier in order to fill the gap that occurred with his injury late in the season," added Calasan. "Even more, I am sure that Birmingham might have avoided relegation if he played in those decisive matches at the end of the season." |

Nobody expected him to stay...i thought he would one of the first to go.He is the biggest earner and therefore the most immediate drain on the club that needs shipping out QUICKTIME We are still paying his wages ffs no wonder his agent says there is no rush |

'The Birmingham squad will return for pre-season training on Tuesday, but former Valencia man Zigic is not expected to join them'. Can players who want to leave just not bother to turn up at Wast Hills tomorrow then? |

Well I would order him in for training at the club, as if we are paying him then the least he can do is make an appearence in training. |

After Gardner, I refuse to get upset about want-away players. CH needs a squad who are passionate and want to play for our great club. Yes, we also need quality, but we can sign much better players than those who got us relegated last season! |

Burke, in my opinion, is better than Larsson. Marlon King - whether you like him or not - is better than Matt Derbyshire. Jordon Mutch will step into Gardner's shoes - he's proven as a fantastic player at Championship level. I'm confident we'll have a very good side next year. |

Zigic going is a formality, we need to lose the liability of his salary. In football terms, I doubt he is capable of living with the physical element of Championship football |

Burke better than Larsson ? OK we shall see King better than Derbyshire - I agree Derbyshire never played for us really Mutch - Did ok in a mid table champ team - scored how many goals ? NOT the same sort of player as GARNDER and IMO not in his league YET The centre halves leave are the players being brought in going to be better ? If Ridgewell leaves are they gonna buy a better left back ? I will still be there every game but i fail to understand the logic that the players we can bring in will be off greater quality than those that are leaving Especially when we do not seen to be interested in anyone who is going to command a fee ! |

I do not think for a minute he had any intention of coming back The Championship would have scared the life out of him - He thought the premier league was physical  |

We'll see mate. I see where your concerns are coming from, but when Newcastle went down, they sold £23.5m worth of players - and Hughton still built a squad who ran away with the Championship with just £2.75m. Like Newcastle, we've got one or two youngsters who are good enough to fill in the gaps - so I'm confident our fantastic new manager will get us straight back up on whatever resources he is given! |

I don't think so at the moment, but we'll see what happens between now and September 1st. At the moment, we've certainly got the best, if not second best squad in the league. |

zigic can go if he wants but his agent has to realise that he will only go if the club say so.zigic needs to get back to training keep his head down and tell his agent to shut his mouth.the least we deserve is a bit of professionalism and respect |

On his wages i would assume he`s already been touted to other clubs and maybe thats why his agent has spoken out. Nice knowing you Zig but a luxury we cant afford. |
